As any dietitian can attest to, the key to losing weight lies in management of calories - knowing what to eat, when to eat and how to eat it.
    These 5 tips when considered can help you lose weight

1.   Eat with small size plates: The key to eating to lose weight lies in eating in small portions. Therefore, help your cause by eating with small plates that'll force you to serve smaller portions. Reverse will be the case if you're looking to gain weight, but we digress.

2.  Eat slowly: Try eating slowly as it takes time for our brains to register that we're full so be indlugent. Making sure to chew every piece of food bit by bit.

3.  Overdose on fruits and vegetables: This never gets old. Fruits are very filling and much better, healthy and super cleansing. So fill up on fruits/vegetables and this way you don't have to worry about heavy food.

4.   Give your food uninterrupted attention: Keep your phone away and definitely stay away from the television. This is because we're likely to eat more when eating distractedly, so focus on your food and be done with it.

5.   Eat to feel satisfied, not stuffed: This means no second helpings, just eat enough to satisfy the hunger pangs and be done with it. Enjoy.

How laughter boosts your mental health

   Laughter is the best medicine, so goes a popular quote, which might be the reason why comedians like Alibaba, Bovi, Basket mouth and others have not only carved a niche for themselves in entertainment but   are also smiling to the bank.

    When it comes to relieving stress, particularly in times like this economic recession in Nigeria and political strife seem to be stifling our happiness and existence, more giggles and guffaws are just the doctor's best recommendation. In order to regain your sanity, have a good laugh.
    Scientists say it takes about 43 muscles around the face to frown and just 17 to smile. Laughter does you good. Laughter is a great form of stress relief.

    Mental health is simply a level of psychological wellbeing or the absence of mental illness. According to World Health organization, WHO, mental health is defined as a state of wellbeing in which every individual realizes his or her potential, copes with the normal stresses of life, works productively and able to make a contribution to the community.
The positive dimension of mental health is stressed in WHO’s definition of health thus: “Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”

    Mental Health Commission defines good mental health as a sense of wellbeing, confidence and self-esteem. It enables us to fully enjoy and appreciate other people, day-to-day life and our environment. When we are mentally healthy we can form positive relationships, use our abilities to reach our potential and deal with life’s challenges. it is important to educate people on the need to speak up as well as stop stigmatization of mental patients,“Nigerians hardly talk about mental health and many think of depression simply as sadness, weakness, weak faith, something that is demon-inflicted or influenced by black magic, something to be ashamed of or as an issue specific to western communities.

    Mental illness is a health problem that significantly affects how a person thinks, behaves and interacts with other people. It is diagnosed according to standardized criteria. It is a big health concern for low to medium income countries like Nigeria, which affects as many as one in five people.

   A mental health problem also affects how a person thinks, feels and behaves but to a lesser extent than mental illness. Mental illnesses are of different types and degrees of severity.  Some of the major types are anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar mood disorder, personality disorders, eating disorders and depression.
These illnesses may also be referred to as mental disorder, mental impairment or psychiatric disability.

   Depression, which affects both young and old, has been predicted by the World Health Organization to be the leading cause of death and disability by 2020 only after ischemic heart disease.

   Mental illness results from complex interactions between the mind, body and environment.  Factors which can contribute to mental illness are long-term and acute stress, biological factors such as genetics, chemistry and hormones, use of alcohol, drugs and other substances, cognitive patterns such as constant negative thoughts and low self-esteem, social factors such as isolation, financial problems, family breakdown or violence.

     These factors can be minimized by a strong and supportive community environment.

    *Short-term benefits
  A good laugh has great short-term effects. When you start to laugh, it doesn’t just lighten your load mentally; it actually induces physical changes in your body. Laughter can:
Stimulate many organs
   Laughter enhances your intake of oxygen-rich air, stimulates your heart, lungs and muscles and increases the endorphins that are released by your brain.
     *Activate and relieve your stress response
  A  rollicking laugh fires up and then cools down your stress response and it can increase your heart rate and blood pressure. The result? A good, relaxed feeling.
   *Soothe tension
   Laughter can also stimulate circulation and aid muscle relaxation both of which can help reduce some physical symptoms of stress.
   * long term effect
    Laughter isn’t just a quick pick-me-up, though. It’s also good for you over the long term. Laughter can;
   Improve your immune system
  Negative thoughts result in chemical reactions that can affect your body by bringing more stress into your system and decreasing your immunity. In contrast, positive thoughts can actually release neuro peptides that help fight stress and potentially more serious illnesses.
    *Relieve pain
   Laughter may ease pain by causing the body to produce its own natural painkillers.
    *Increase personal satisfaction
   Laughter can make it easier to cope with hard situations. It also helps you come in contact with other people.
   * Improve your mood
    Many people experience depression, sometimes due to chronic illnesses. Laughter can help lessen your depression and anxiety and may make you feel happier.
When it comes to health in later life, researchers find laughter may really be the best medicine. Moreso, Combining laughter with moderate exercise can improve the mental health of older adults as well as boost their motivation and ability to engage in physical activity.

AGE GAP BETWEEN COUPLE INCREASES CHANCES OF DIVORCE, STUDY SAYS ;

    Couples with bigger difference in age encounter the risk of divorce than other couples, according to a research by Emory University. Usher and Tameka Raymond have a 7year difference between them; their marriage lasted only two years. In a study recently released by Emory University in Atlanta, it was discovered that increasing the age difference between partners actually increases the chances of the marriage splitting. Some say that once people are physically and emotionally mature, then they can make rational decisions for themselves, as expected of all adults, so they can decide who or not to marry, regardless of the age difference. Many others believe that the man should be older than the woman, and only with few years. On the other hand, a man decides to marry a woman that is significantly older, he is probably a gold-digger and the woman, sugar mummy.       Now, according to the study which involved 3000 people, when there is a large age difference between a couple, they face a very high risk of the marriage crashing. This is, of course, in addition to facing negative statements from the society. In fact the research says there is a 30% increased chance of divorce for such couples, as compared to those who have just a little age difference between them.
       According to the research, if you and your beau are    about five years apart in age, the risk of divorce is quite 18%. If the difference increases to 10 years, then the chances of divorce goes up to 39%! And for those with an age difference as huge as 20 years, they face a whopping 95% divorce chance! So what is the ideal age difference between couples? The result of the study suggests that the best is if there is only one year separating you and your partner. This is because according to them, marrying someone only one year older or younger than you decreases your chances of splitting to just 3%.

FIVE AFFECTIVE WAYS TO FORGET YOUR EX-GIRLFRIEND

  Forgetting a girl whose love reached deep into your soul is never easy, but like many other things, it is not impossible

These five steps are the most effective ways to forget that ex-girlfriend, and never look back again.

  * Get busy, remain very busy immerse yourself in work. Put your all, every component of you into work- the mind, body spirit, everything you’ve got.
This is one of the most effective ways to begin the journey of letting go of someone broke up with.
  * Speak with someone you trust, bare your soul to them .Rant about her -  one time
I would really have said see a therapist or something, but judging by how reluctant we are around these parts to do such things, I’ll just stick with this one- rant about the whole thing, but just once.
Look for someone who you trust and who has an endless capacity to actually listen.
Bare your soul, say it all- everything you will miss about her, everything you hated about her, the irreconcilable differences that brought about the breakup… talk about it all, and then set on the path of walking away from her for life.
Your friends need to stop talking/asking about her.
   True, your mutual friends knew how perfect you were together, and after the breakup, they tried to patch the relationship together again. Unfortunately,  it did not work as they planned.
Now you have to let them know that you need to move on, so they have to assist you and stop talking about her around you.
You already have the problem of banishing her thoughts from your own mind, having them go on talking about her will only make it worse for you.
Now if they are going to be making life hard for you, why are they really friends?
  * It's going to hurt, but give yourself time. It usually does the trick. Exercise patience. You will need to be really patient because getting rid of the thought of that ex-girlfriend will not be as easy as washing off the smell of smoke from your clothes. No.
You have to be patient to achieve the maximum, complete result.
While you do all the other things listed here in a bid to effectively forget her for good, never forget that patience is also very required.Someone new and better
By keeping really busy with work and other activities, you can find something to actually keep your mind off that former girlfriend.
    * Find someone new, someone better
However, you also need someone else to occupy your mind.
Answer this honestly, can you replace a woman’s calming, companionable, and even sexual presence by just being busy with work? Bet your answer starts with an ‘N’ and ends with an ‘O.’
Truth is, keeping busy and being without a bae can only last a certain period.
At some point, in order to banish the ghost of girlfriend [s] past for life, you have to get yourself someone new.
Just ensure you make a better choice than the previous.

No plan to increase petrol cost

  The clarification was made after an NNPC GM said that it was no longer reasonable to sell fuel at N145.
   Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Maikanti Baru has said that it’s not in plan to increase the price of fuel.
This clarification was made by NNPC spokesman, Muhammad Garba-Deen after Group General Manager, Crude Oil Marketing, Mele Kyari said that it was no longer reasonable to sell fuel at N145 per litre.

  Garba-Deen says;“As at this moment, there is absolutely no plan to do that  because we have more than enough supply; we have very robust stock of product in our custody. In addition to that, we also have long term procurement contract with our suppliers,”
“The usual reason that would necessitate a review of price at the moment had been taken care of.  We have long term procurement contract with our suppliers; we have more than enough supply to last us throughout the ember months and beyond.
“The statement people are referring to was made within the context of technical explanation, not within the context of downstream operations. The marketers had been complaining and their complaints have been addressed adequately to their satisfaction. A new window has been opened for them, and in fact, what is happening now is that we are waiting for them to deliver.
“A new window to make foreign exchange  available for them for their importation needs have been opened and they are satisfied with it. We have fulfilled our own side of the bargain; we are waiting for them to deliver on their own promises,”Garba-Deen included.

   At the Oil Trading and Logistics Expo in Lagos, that the current price was unsustainable due to the unstable foreign exchange market, Kyari said.

Marriage in Nigeria is too expensive, is it worth it?

With your now deflated chest, you sit quietly in a corner and ask yourself is she worth bankruptcy?
  * Here are some advantages of marrying really early.
You proposed and she said yes. You are elated. At last, the woman of your dreams is yours.
You walk around with your chest held high until you see the 'list',
  *500 tubers of yam,
  *Vesper bike (for grandma),
  *laptops,
  * land,
  * bundles of expensive lace clothing,
  * cartons of assorted drinks,
  * five white goats.
Second to meeting her parents for the first time, the list of things requested by the bride’s family is the most dreaded part of marriages in Nigeria.
You are still reeling from the effect of the list when her pastor tells you, only when white wedding is done in his church will she be recognized in the eyes of God.
And the Lord help you if your bride to be, wants anInstagram-worthy wedding.
  *11 bridesmaids,
  * choreographed dancing,
  * reception at Orientals with Baskemouth emceeing.
With your now deflated chest you sit quietly in a corner and ask yourself is she worth bankruptcy? Yes, bankruptcy is what it takes to get married in Nigeria.
    The rules of marriage first instituted by God in the garden of Eden is universal. A man finds a woman he likes, approaches her family and is told what the bride price is. Immediately he pays the bride price she becomes his wife. Every other thing is just additional, the marriage is over.
Everybody knows this. The pastors know this. Yet they insist you must also get married in church after getting married traditionally.
By law in Nigeria, Customary marriage (traditional marriage) supersedes church marriage and magistrate courts will not join you together if you are yet to do the Customary marriage.
So why do pastors insist their members get married in a church, with some churches even carrying out pregnancy tests and inspecting the boy house.
As far as I know, the father of the bride, not a pastor determines the rules but in a religious country like Nigeria the pastor hold sway.
So our youths grow old and gray hustling for cash to fund three marriages only to marry one wife.
Cash that should be spent on the welfare of the new couple is wasted catering for uncles, aunties, and friends who have never given a dime to neither bride nor groom in their entire life.
A lot of these unions have collapsed because after borrowing or spending their capital to get married they have no funds to take care of basic needs.
Marriage, simple and beautiful thing, has now being corrupted in Nigeria.

HILARIOUS: WIFE, MISTRESS FIGHT DIRTY WHILE VISITING MAN IN HOSPITAL

   Two women  embroiled in a fight while visiting their man at the hospital has gone viral.
Apparently, the man's wife and his mistress happened to visit him at the hospital at the same time, getting into a cat and rat fight.
The women seemed to overlook the fact that the man who was hospitalised was clothed in only a hospital gown while he struggled to pull them apart.
The man is heard screaming and insulting one of the women, accusing her of being 'stupid', while demanding that she let go of the other lady's hair which was held firmly in her grasp.
The trio eventually makes it to their feet and are forced to let go of each other as the man stands in between them.
  The freed lady goes to pick up an object she intends to hurl at the other woman but changes her mind at the last minute.

5 steps to easily pardon your partner

5 steps to easily pardon your partner.
The quicker you are able to forgive your partner's errors and move on, the better for the growth of your relationship.
  * How to easily forgive your partner. Making mistakes is only natural; and as partners, it is only normal to have misunderstandings once in a while.
When these mistakes happen, and one of the partner is hurt, what stops the relationship from going forward is forgiveness.
  * Learn to forgive and forget.
We understand that forgiving is easier said than done, especially when you were really offended by what your partner did, or if that action is a recurrent one.
In these instances, forgiveness might not be so easy to grant, but with the steps below, you could learn to not only forgive, but also forget more easily .Give your partner the benefit of the doubt
There is always more than one angle to view an issue from. Before you jump into a fit of rage, why not rest easy for a moment, take a deep breath and consider your options.
According to Lesli Doares, an american  marriage and relationship expert "choosing the interpretation that puts your partner in the most positive light makes forgiveness a whole lot easier."
  * Put yourself in your partner's shoe
Ask yourself this question, "If you had done something similar and your partner was angry, would you want to be forgiven?" Most likely yes, right? Now do unto them what you would have them do to you.Reflect on everything good in your partner and relationship
Do you want to let go of your partner because he forgot one or two details of a long conversation you had last night when he has actually been remembering several others for the past five years you both have been together?
Casting your mind on the good things that come with that partner is usually good enough to help you forgive them. Surely there are several good things about them that will overshadow that single mistake.Love is about compromises.
  * Love is about reaching compromises .Forgive unconditionally.
Don't let your forgiveness be granted only because your partner request for it. What this does in the long term, is to make your spouse immune to the feeling of guilt and the need to offer a true, remorseful apology.
The moment they know they can get your forgiveness by meeting some certain condition, you might as well forget about any hopes of genuine repentance.Ask if you played a part in the problem
   * We all love to display some holy indignation when we are wronged, but hardly ever do we ask ourselves how we are part of the problem.
Taking that step, asking yourself if by commission or omission you might have played a part in making your partner do what they did, might help you grant them forgiveness more easily.

4 REASONS WHY FIGHTING IS GOOD FOR YOUR RELATIONSHIP

Below are four  reasons why lovers' fights are needed in every relationship.
We’re talking here about healthy relationships and ‘normal’ lovers’ fights, which to a large extent is to be naturally expected of them.
Here are four reasons why…
     » Be as honest as possible, even if it means your partner will argue with you. It's just fine .It proves you're completely honest with each other
There’s a very chance that if you exposed the whole of yourself to your partner, there will be one or two things about you that they will not be too happy about, hence the need for a change.
If you can voice your concern, stand up for your opinion, especially about something you’re not happy about, and argue with your partner about it, it proves that you’re honest enough and actually need to make the relationship work.
On the other hand, you could always pretend at all times that all is fine when you are actually not happy with anything at all.

    » Being able to fearlessly express your discontent shows that your relationship is free of intimidation.
It proves you're not intimidated by one another
As opposed to an abusive relationship [which you should never stay in], fights in healthy relationships are symmetrical arguments where both partners are free to express their discontent at each other.
If you’re not afraid to let your partner know what they’re doing wrong, then it means you’re at a point where you both are not scared or intimidated by each other; and that, dear friend, is a really good place to be in your relationship.It helps you correct your flaws
Not only does a fight help correct your own defects, it also helps you point out your partner’s faults and vice-versa, and the cycle of correcting each other and growing as people goes on.

* » Soon, you will be able to laugh and joke about the old days of your arguments .It creates good memories
Wondering how that works, right?
Ok, picture this; several years down the line, you and your partner are now closer than ever, and you are at the best place to be in your relationship; but at first, it was not like that.

* » You were always arguing and correcting and ironing out things. Eventually, you get to perfectly understand each other, and then, you can look back at the old days and smile at how far you have come now.It keeps your ego at a reasonable level
When all is said and done, what matters more than the fight itself is how you resolve it. If you can get off your high-horse, apologise to each other and effectively resolve serious arguments, then you can be sure that you’re in it for the long run and can make this relationship work against all odds.
